功德殊胜

我们都知道花能清心养目，所以读书人多喜欢在案头上摆一枝花，以此来增加读书的情趣。

We all know that flowers can calm our mind and nourish our eyes. That’s why scholars like to put flowers on their desks so as to increase the pleasure of reading.

From time immemorial it’s also our tradition to offer flowers to the Buddha. The Japanese Ikebana (flower way) also originates from this tradition.

我们佛弟子也常用花来供佛或是庄严佛堂，当花的清香迎面而来时，也让我们的思绪沉静温和下来，庄严的佛堂衬上几朵淡雅的花朵，也使我们对佛菩萨的恭敬之心油然而生。

As Buddhists, we always offer flowers to the Buddha or use flowers to adorn the solemn Buddha hall.

When the fragrance greets us, it calms our thoughts and brings us tranquility. Moreover, adorning Buddha halls with elegant scented flowers also inspires our reverence to the Buddha and Bodhisattva.

以花供佛，功德殊胜。花是佛教中，最受欢迎的物品之一，其清净、柔软、美丽、芬芳的特质，最能代表供佛人的虔诚恭敬之心。以花供养佛菩萨，其行为本身也具有无比殊胜的功德。

Offering flowers to the Buddha is deemed markedly superior in terms of merit. Flower is one of the most popular items in Buddhism as it combines exquisite characteristics of purity, softness, beauty and sweet fragrance. And these features best reflect the devotion and reverence of the Buddhist.

The practice of offerings flowers to the Buddha and Bodhisattva itself has markedly superior merits. Legend has it that the National Master Yu Ling of Qing Dynasty was disfigured by fire in his previous life when he tried to save his twin brother.

传说清朝的玉琳国师前世因为救双胞胎弟弟而被大火毁容，但他曾以花供养药师佛像，所以后世感得妙相庄严人天共赞得果报，由此也成为了佛门的美谈。

After the incident, he started the practice of offering flowers to the Medicine Buddha. As a result, upon the rebirth in this life, he attained majestic and solemn appearance which were exalted by all devas and humans. His example became a well-known story within Buddhism.

佛前花供养常见问题

常见问题一：

供养佛菩萨的花应该如何挑选呢？

What type of flowers are deemed to be suitable for offering to the Buddha and Bodhisattva ?

答：供养佛菩萨的花，我们最好选择无毒、无刺，表面光滑庄严的鲜花。

Flowers that are suitable for offering to the Buddha and Bodhisattva should be non-toxic, with no thorns and with a noble smooth surface.

常见问题二：

供花之前，我们要对鲜花进行修饰吗？

Do we need to shape the flowers before offering ?

答：我们应时常加以修剪，把枯萎凋谢的部分去除，也要随时清洗、更换，保持鲜花的清洁、新鲜。

We should trim the flowers from time to time so to remove the withered and decayed part. As well as rinsing and replacing with fresh flowers to keep the offered flowers clean and fresh at all time.

我们要以怎样的心态来供花？

What kind of attitude should we hold at time of flower offering?

答：佛前供花，供养的是佛菩萨，也是修自己对佛菩萨的恭敬心与虔诚心。心怀清净，常与美好的事物相伴，我们便能处世如花。

Flower offering to the Buddha is not only an offer to the Buddha and Bodhisattva, but also the practice of showing our reverence and devotion to the Buddha and Bodhisattva. If we often stay close to beautiful things with a purified mind, we will be respectable and admirable in the society.

花开见佛悟无生，
